My earliest memories are of my mother singing Doris Day, my father putting Simon and Garfunkel on the record player, my big brother playing his electric guitar and me watching The Monkeys on the telly and falling in love with Davy Jones! I once found a tape of me teaching my best friend how to sing "My Old Man's a Dustman" and I remember playing "Little Donkey" on a small plastic organ on the floor in our dining room.
My first single purchase was The Buggles "Video Killed The Radio Star" and my first album purchase was Jeff Wayne's War of The Worlds. I had 5 or 6 years of piano lessons and reached grade 7. I have had no guitar lessons but learned enough from friends and books to have played in solo gigs all over Brighton. I am a singer-songwriter, when I have the time. I also love to sing cheesie or unusual cover versions - often a few months before someone famous releases a version very blooming' similar to mine which ends up on a TV advert!!! I have played solo gigs all over Brighton and have supported friends gigs vocally, with guitar and occasional accordion. Just recently I joined MAUVE PEOPLE, a fabulous jazz-funk-latin-feelgood band where I am a la-la girl (backing singer). I am loving the close harmonies work we do there! If you get a chance to come and see us I can guarantee you won't be able to stop yourself dancing, and the happy vibes will stay with you for some time after the dancing has finished!! Mike Chantler, lead vocal and amazing keyboard player, writes and arranges all the songs. They are all unknown classics and many people who come to hear us can't believe that they've not heard the songs somewhere before!
I am currently the Music-Coordinator at Hertford Junior School. I run the samba band and every year we play our groovy rhythms alongside Hertford Infant School in The Children's Parade. Every other year I help the children prepare to perform in our phenomenal talent show "Hertford's Got Talent". I also train the choir up to perform at the annual Brighton and Hove Christmas Choir show at The Conference Centre. Our school also puts on a wonderful Christmas singing show for parents.
